5 Ideas for Decorating with Mirrors to Make Your Space Shine

Top Agent Insights for the New Year

Mirrors are linked to luck (more specifically bad luck if broken) and when you’re trying to give your home a bit of a facelift prior to selling, then it may be a good idea to decorate with them. They can elevate the look of your home and give it an almost regal feel. With so many style options and ways to use the mirrors, you might want to contact a real estate agent right away!

Here are five ways you can incorporate mirrors into your home’s decors. If Home Light’s Top Agent Insights for the New Year are correct, the second half of the year might not be so seller-friendly.

1. Highlight the best feature in the house

Every home has something about it that makes a person choose it. Some people are drawn to a fireplace or a beautiful window where they can gaze out at the scenery. Whatever the feature is, place a mirror in front of it and double it. You can never have too much of a good thing, right?

2. Create more light by placing a mirror in front of a window

Natural sunlight has an uncanny way of elevating our moods and giving us a little more pep in our steps. In terms of decorating your house, even if a window doesn’t get very much sunlight coming in, a mirror can amplify what sunlight you do get and makes things look brighter. Of course, if you want to maximize the amount of sun coming in, forego the dark drapes and choose light gauzy ones.

3. Hang mirrors horizontally for a different look

Mirrors come in all shapes and sizes, that much we know. You can find inexpensive mirrors at the dollar store and they’re pretty good quality, too! You can use long slender mirrors that normally hang on the back of a door and put them on the wall. However, instead of hanging them vertically like normal, hang a trio of mirrors on a long wall horizontally. This will give you a unique look that doubles as a piece of art – especially if you do this across from a window, a fireplace, or another point of interest in the house.

4. Use mirrors to create a focal point

To draw off the previous suggestions, you can use the actual mirror as the focal point. To do this, you could choose to hang a few mirrors horizontally as mentioned above, but you can also go another route. You could purchase a large mirror with a beautiful frame and lean it against the wall. It may be costly, but the end result is well worth the money!

5. AVOID covering an entire wall with mirrors!

You’ve seen them in the past – entire walls covered in mirror tiles. It doesn’t matter how you decorate the rest of the room, a mirrored wall is tacky and is the fastest way to turn off buyers. If your current home does have a wall of mirrored tiles, we strongly suggest taking them down and painting the wall. You’ll be glad you did when you start seeing the offers roll in.

Decorating with mirrors makes any space look amazing

Decorating your home with mirrors is a cheap and effective way to make your home look like it came straight out of the home design magazines. You’re not only highlighting the best features of your house and letting the natural sunlight show them off, but you’re making the house look and feel bigger.

While buyers aren’t actually getting more square footage (although wouldn’t it be nice if it did?), it’s the illusion of more space that draws buyers in and start imagining themselves living there. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters, isn’t it?
