Everything We Know So Far About “Black Butler”

Black Butler

The manga series Black Butler was written and drawn by Yana Toboso. Since September 2006, it has been published in Square Enix’s shonen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy. The series is about Ciel Phantomhive, the Earl of Phantomhive, who is 12 years old and works as the Queen’s Watchdog. He has to solve crimes in the dangerous parts of London in the 1800s. Ciel has made a deal with Sebastian Michaelis, a demon who pretends to be his butler, to get revenge on the people who tortured and killed his parents. Sebastian can eat Ciel’s soul in exchange for his help.

From October 2008 to March 2009, A-1 Pictures made 24 episodes of an anime TV series based on the book. From July to September 2010, a second twelve-episode season aired. This season has two new main characters and an anime-original storyline that is not based on the manga. Between July and September 2014, a third season called “Black Butler: Book of Circus” was shown. Black Butler: Book of Murder, a two-part original video animation (OVA) for theatres, was established in Japanese theatres in October and November 2014. In Japan, the story was turned into a live-action movie in January 2014. In January 2017, Japan showed the first part of an animated movie called Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic.

Yen Press has the rights to the series in North America. From August 2009 to July 2010, it was in Yen Plus. Funimation got the rights to sell the anime series. Aniplex of America took over the rights to the first two seasons after Funimation lost them.

As of July 2022, more than 32 million copies of Black Butler had been sold.

Plot of the Black Butler:

Ciel Phantomhive is a twelve-year-old earl who lives in Victorian-era London. He became an earl after his tenth birthday on December 14, 1885, when the Phantomhive manor was attacked and set on fire by unknown people. In the middle of all the chaos, Ciel finds that his parents, Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive, and the family dog, Sebastian, are all dead. The same night, the attackers take him away and sell him into slavery. He ends up in the hands of a murderous cult that worships demons. Then, Ciel’s captors hurt him physically, mentally, and sexually for as long as they could. A mark called the “mark of the beast” was also burned into Ciel’s skin.

One night, during a sacrifice ceremony, to call a demon, instead of making a deal with the cult members, the devil says that Ciel called him, so he will only make a deal with him. In the process, he kills everyone in the cult. The demon puts a contract symbol on Ciel’s right eye to show that an agreement was made. This symbol is called the Faustian contract symbol, giving Ciel’s right eye a purple colour. His iris and pupil now show the symbol of the deal. After the contract is made, the demon tells Ciel that he will eat his soul as payment for helping him reach his goal, which is to get revenge on the people who destroyed the House of Phantomhive.

Following that, Ciel bestows upon the demon the name Sebastian Michaelis, the name of his deceased pet dog. After reintegrating into society, Ciel takes over the role of the queen’s watchdog, previously occupied by his late father. In this highly high-profile role, one of the responsibilities is to investigate instances that Queen Victoria considers significant or potentially hazardous to England and the monarchy.

Conclusion:

It’s a shame that viewers of the anime series Black Butler won’t likely see another season of the show. You always have the option to start reading manga instead. Look on the bright side! However, as A-1 Pictures Studios has yet to provide any formal announcement, you are free to continue to hold out hope for a positive outcome.
